[edit] The Basics

Name: Sokei Ninmae is most certainly not an uncomplicated person. Fittingly, she most certainly does not lack an uncomplicated name. Her proper name is spelt in kanji as 俎頃 任前 and is commonly read as Duty Before the Altar of Sacrifice of Time. However, somewhere in her time as an elementary school girl, a young Ninmae discovered that not everyone wrote her name the same way. This is how she adopted the rather annoying habit of spelling it with alternate characters - 曾 軽人 前 (meaning, roughly, Messenger in the Presence of Former Light) - whenever the fancy took her. Though she has never dared to write the "incorrect" version on anything official, she frequently signs her name on documents she deems unimportant using the characters of the latter version. She is secretly gleeful as to the confusion it leaves in its wake, a point that is further exemplified by the fact that when she is feeling particularly cheeky, she mixes and matches the kanji of the two forms without shame.

To further complicate things: in a vanity she would never admit to, Ninmae was one of the first to jump on the trend of writing her fullname in katakana. She feels it makes it look more "global chic"; it serves as proof positive she is urbane, something she wants you to know. (It also serves as proof positive she is just about as cracked-out as the Cheshire Cat, but shh, she doesn't want you to know THAT. Just. Yet.)

Position: Ninmae is many things; shall we count the ways?

  • Third Year Student at Tokyo University (double major in Art History and Classics)
  • Part-time Principal’s Assistant at Chuo
  • Volunteer Tour Guide at the Tokyo National Museum
  • Say it with me now: Senshi of Time and Space
  • Girl with Little Free Time on her Hands

Appearance:

Sokei Ninmae could hardly be called pretty; those that find her attractive do so for what can only be called a steely, unforgiving beauty. Ninmae’s features are decidedly angular, like the blade of a very, very sharp knife: her cheekbones are razors, her chin a dagger. She is hardly approachable Miss Mary. Her olive eyes are her most expressive bit, able to convey a thousand seperate emotions in a blink. By default, they are heavily lidded and give her an air of nonchalant maturity, but just as easily, they can flick to a piercing unnervingness or utter amusement.

Ninmae's complexion is moon-pale, drawing stark contrast to her colour-saturated hair, which shifts in tone from purple to garnet much like the skin of a plum. Her waist is by far her favourite feature, as it gives her a soft hourglass figure that is a strange antithesis to the hardness of her face. It conveys an intimacy that would otherwise be unimaginable in her. She stands retardedly tall compared to most Japanese women, a height she secretly relishes and has been known to rely on to be Real Fucking Scary.

She never yells. Ever. Her speaking voice is a quiet, purred alto that can become dangerously sharp when provoked. Ninmae has the unique ability of conveying her overt anger in a level that never reaches loud, which usually makes things that much more frightening. Her movements are like her voice: deliberate, calm, slow even, but nothing if not assured.

Her obsessive tendencies come out plainly in the attire she prefers. Ninmae is a clothes horse; glittery Ginza draws her like what. She dresses older than she is, but follows specific self-imposed rules: she’ll only wear the very new (nothing older than four seasons) or the very old (anything at least two decades old – this however, is closer to three since the neon tubesocks of the 80s scare her). She also has a love affair with accessories, esp. watches (hurhur).

For Extra Points: Ninmae in GaiaOnline avatar form. And also Candybar form.

Age/Birthday/Astrological Whatnot: Ninmae is a respectable 21, and was born on the 19th of September, which makes her a Scorpio and intense like whoa. Add a Virgo moon and Libra rising, and she is intellectual, yet charming in a way that scares people. As it should.

[edit] Mundane Life

Friends and Family: Sokei Seimei, Ninmae's mother, is the director of the newly opened Gibraltar Hospital, where her husband, Shitou, heads its oncology unit. Needless to say, they are not around. Ninmae's younger sister, Sokei Mako is an unholy terror in the guise of a perfectly primped queen bee who antagonizes just about everyone her age, while managing to remain sweet and lovely to her elders. A third year student at Chuo, she is the only one in Nippon who knows how to push Ninmae's buttons just so. Tenga, the youngest of the Sokei clan, is Ninmae's younger brother, of whom she is fiercly protective. He is a brilliant, if not terribly shy, twelve-year old who is in his first year at Chuo. He has a passion for etymology, and if you make fun of him for it, Ninmae will end you. While their parents are out of the country, Mako and Tenga reside with their great-aunts, Minoue Koe and Minoue Naiki. Koe is, to the children, Oba-chan, an assistant curator for the National Musuem of Tokyo who enjoys sumi-e in her spare time and wins nearly everyone over with her kind, forthcoming demeanour. Minoue, Oba-sama, is a retired headmistress who rules over her house with an iron fist. She is a frosty woman who demands respect and does not take anyone's bull (and, much like Medusa, you should never, ever look her directly in the eyes.)

Usual Daily Routine: Give us an idea of what their daily life, habits and interests are. Hobbies, favorites, and suchlike would fit here.

Background: A brief sketch of this person's life, up until this point. Living conditions, upbringing, why they act the way they do, how they came to where they are now.

[edit] A Little More Specific

Quirks: Because foibles are always cool. An important note: if you are Elemental, you MUST have some sort of serious mental disorder. Yeah, we said must, that's right, we opened that door.

Darkest Secret: It can be mundane or supernatural, but it's the ONE THING this character would never tell anyone ever.

Reactions to Sudden Hugs: Yes, seriously. Honestly, the way people react when they're surprised is the quickest, best way to know what they're really like.

Virtues and Vices: For those of you playing along at home, the virtues are faith, hope, charity, fortitude, justice, temperance, and prudence, and the vices are anger, envy, pride, gluttony, lust, avarice, and sloth. You do not have to list them individually -- only detail things that are character-defining. 'Likes to sleep late' would be a quirk, not a vice; the vice version would be 'blows off all prior commitments and may avoid all battles for the saving of the world in order to enjoy a fluffy pillow.'

[edit] Badassery

Power Sphere: Time. (Pluto is hardcore!)

Asswhoopery: A broad description of your can of whoopass - what it allows you to do, and how much ass it whoops. Basically, describe how their sphere of influence works.

Greatest Weakness: ... what, the incredible pressure she's under doesn't count?

Attacks: It's Sailor Moon. Yes, you have cheesy attack names, and silly choreographed banks of motions to go along with invoking it. EMBRACE THE CHEESE. As in canon, senshi must transform with their additionally cheesy "Make-UP!" phrase to use their attacks. Elementals have full access to their sphere of influence at all times and are under no such silly restrictions.

Fuku: She has a shiny shiny Time Key staff, topped by the Garnet Orb. Said Orb is a reflection of the Sacred Jewel entrusted to the descendants of the Divine Emperor and his glorious ancestor the Sun Goddess. Pluto is stylish and legendary!

[edit] Connections

Describe roleplaying hooks for this character, either in a point-by-point for each of their existing comrades/enemies, or in general terms. No one exists in a vacuum, so no character should be completely devoid of connections to one another or to Tokyo. Don't cop out on this one, especially since this is the part that Cal and Lisa read first.
