The Basics

Name: Shoumetsu Yuriko (生滅百合子): roughly translates to "birth and death lily" or, as the player prefers, "lily of birth and death."

Position: Sailor Saturn, Lunar Senshi of Silence

Appearance: 5'3 and slight of build, Yuriko is far from an intimidating presence. Her face is elliptical with gentle curves and no sharp corners, with a tiny nose peeking out from under her light-green eyes. Those eyes are capable of a wide range of expression, though very few people get to see the childlike look of wonder in them any more as she keeps her gaze downcast fairly often. Her hair is medium violet in color, worn short and straight, parted down the left side with short bangs, usually tucked off her ears by a hairband.

While attending school, or when studying immediately after school, she wears the uniform of Chuo High: a full-sleeved gray blazer trimmed and accented in green and blue, a pleated knee-length skirt likewise hemmed in green and blue, similarly-trimmed gray socks, and plain gray dress shoes. Her preference in casual-wear tends to the more feminine blouses, sweaters, skirts, and dresses rather than the jeans-and-t-shirt look, even if she does have the option either way. Her wardrobe spans the range of colors and shades, but tends toward the subdued, such as pastels or black, rather than toward bright colors or attention-grabbing patterns. She wears very little jewelry other than a pair of small zirconium earrings, though she has a few necklaces and bracelets along with soft shades of makeup for formal wear.

Age/Birthday/Astrological Whatnot: May 8, age 16. Taurus, Virgo Rising, Moon in Capricorn: Taurus seeks stability and security and is artistically inclined, devoted, stubborn, and patient; Virgo Rising is very sensitive, even sad to see the world not living up to her practical, beautiful ideal; Moon in Capricorn (ruled by Saturn) is serious and cautious with her emotions, often needy of attention from those she holds dear.

Mundane Life

Friends and Family:

Usual Daily Routine:

Background:

A Little More Specific

Quirks:

Darkest Secret:

Reactions to Sudden Hugs: At first, freezing solid, at least until she can figure out who the heck just hugged her. After that, it's either a warmly-felt return hug, a swift kick between the wickets, or something roughly in between, depending on who it was that just mugged her for a hug.

Virtues and Vices:

Badassery

Power Sphere: Silence. As related to most of Sailor Saturn's powers, "silence" refers to a state of inactivity, often brought about by total destruction and entropy, but also by the quiet recuperation of an injured or ill person.

Asswhoopery: The Saturn starseed is capable of destruction that surpasses even the Royals in power - her power is probably the most universally feared, even by her teammates. Saturn's other powers run the gamut between defense, distraction, energy drain, and recovery, but none can deal the more precise kinds of injury that nearly every other starseed can cause. She has a sense for finding weak or damaged points in people and objects, weaker but still present in her civilian identity. The Silence Glaive she carries isn't just for dark-shiny powers - it deals wicked wounds that don't heal easily, both from the physical force of the sharp edge and the magical force of destruction, and on top of this Saturn gains skill in using it as a mundane weapon that Yuriko doesn't possess. Finally, Saturn also has this annoying tendency to not remain dead.

Greatest Weakness: Saturn's primary weakness is an inability to deal direct damage with her powers, unless she's willing to wipe out the Solar System and everyone in it; this makes her a very poor solo combatant, except when all she needs to do is hold off a foe or escape. All of her powers (except for Rejuvenation and Rebirth) require her to be holding the Silence Glaive.

Attacks:

  • Death Reborn Revolution: While attacking directly with the Silence Glaive is Sailor Saturn's most common offense, some creatures require a different approach. This attack does not normally cause physical harm, but it drains the energy of foes in a large area. To use, Saturn holds the Silence Glaive above her head, with both hands toward the middle and the blade-end of the Glaive, and spins counterclockwise as she calls out the attack name loudly. Violet ribbons crackling soundlessly with black energy emit from the blade of the Glaive, snake around Saturn as she finishes her second spin, then snake around to touch her foes. The attack can either be directed at foes within a twenty-foot radius that Saturn can see, can be sent down a path about ten feet wide at range of about a hundred feet, or can all be directed at a single foe within two hundred feet. In either case, the touch of the ribbons saps energy, making people less capable of using their starseeds to produce supernatural effects and causing fatigue. Recovering from this "damage" can be done in the same ways that the individuals recover from fatigue caused by using their powers or from other exertion - by resting. Against weak opponents, or creatures who are themselves made of energy, being touched by many of these ribbons in one attack can prove fatal. One ribbon-touch causes only minor fatigue, as much as throwing a weak power, but it is hard to avoid being hit by multiple ribbons. The ribbons can be dodged with difficulty, and they can be turned aside by defensive powers (but not normal physical shields) that can prevent the ribbons from snaking around the protection (full-circle shields will usually protect the user, while flat shields usually won't). Although the ribbons will seek out foes at Saturn's direction, an ally who touches one (which usually requires such a touch to be intentional) will be likewise drained of energy. Saturn does not directly benefit from the energy drained, as the power is fed into the void, but weakened foes is normally itself a great advantage. Saturn can only normally use this power once within a few hours' time; in desperation, she can use it a second time, but will be nearly exhausted afterwards and unable to use any other powers save for her doomsday attack.
  • Silence Glaive Surprise: The three surprises about this attack are that first, it's not a damaging attack; second, she can activate this attack while using other powers, such as her Silence Wall (below); and third, those affected by it are stunned as if surprised. No gestures are needed, as Sailor Saturn needs to only clearly call the attack phrase. When she does so, violet light shines out of the Glaive, dazzling everyone around for about a hundred yards (remember that Saturn lit up Neherenia's castle in the nightmare dimension like the Fourth of July before starting to bring down the Glaive), friend or foe, save for herself. Those affected can do nothing but stand still and stare quietly for a while, depending on the strength of their starseeds - even Yu-Huang would blink once after this light show, the Royals might be dazed for a second or two, the Elementals might be dazzled for a few more seconds, and most everyone else could be out of the fight from thirty seconds to a minute or so. Even creatures who cannot see are affected, though the power isn't transmitted through technology (such as by seeing her perform the attack through a camera from miles away), and the power can be blocked by shielding powers that fully cover the area between a given target and the Silence Glaive. Further, should an attack be directed at someone under this "surprise" effect, they snap out of it immediately, usually in time to dodge or activate a quick shielding power. As a side effect, absolute silence reigns in the area of effect for a few seconds, like someone hit the 'mute' button on the reality remote. Ideally (in a morbid sense), this is intended to give Saturn enough time to bring down her Glaive, since by the time anyone could react it's too late to stop the inevitable. More often, though, she uses it as a distraction to get herself to a more advantageous position, or to discourage pursuit. She can use this about three times within the span of a few hours.
  • Silence Wall: Perhaps her most often-used power (to the relief of her teammates and the population of Earth in general), Sailor Saturn turns the power of silence into a protective barrier, funneling others' attacks harmlessly into the void. Any physical or energy attack can be absorbed by this shield; only purely mental attacks which have no manifestation of force or energy can bypass it. When protecting only herself, all she needs to do is to hold the Silence Glaive in front of her, which creates a powerful barrier as tall and wide as she is, with energy like black electricity playing along the square surface of the barrier. To protect a larger area, or to protect at a distance, she must call out the power's name clearly, in which case she can encase an dome-shaped hemisphere of crackling black energy about fifteen feet in radius. Save when she's caught by surprise, even vastly powerful attacks can be turned aside by this barrier, as Chaos Galaxia saw after stealing Kakyuu's starseed when attempting to attack Sailor Moon. The shield only protects one side, whether of herself or of others, and an attack from the opposite direction can usually get through before Saturn can move the shield - of course, if she's blocking straight up, an attack needs to come either through or low to the ground. However, injury will not bring down the Silence Wall unless it's enough to knock her unconscious. It's easiest to defeat the barrier when she's only defending herself, as a sufficiently strong attack could push her arms back, thus risking that she loses her hold on the Silence Glaive - and if that happens, her defense winks out.
  • Bring Down the Silence Glaive: This is perhaps one of the most feared abilities in the universe, and easily the reason that it is believed that Sailor Saturn should only awaken in times of dire peril, for she's the Lunars' own emergency self-destruct system. This attack carries enough power to destroy a planet, perhaps even an entire solar system, though with the predictable consequence of taking Sailor Saturn with it. To use, all she needs to do is to concentrate on her task, raise the Silence Glaive over her head with both hands at the haft-end, and then slam the blade into the ground; the Glaive emits black lightning which starts playing around the planet and sometimes jumping to other nearby planets, laying waste to everything it touches. No words are necessary, and since it draws as much on her lifeforce as her starseed's energy, she can use the attack even if exhausted, so long as she's at least barely conscious enough to be able to lift and lower the Glaive. Only very strong powers can withstand or negate this attack, such as being in the realm of a powerful individual (along the line of Chaos Galaxia or Yu-Huang in strength), it can't be dodged short of leaving the planet in the span of a few seconds, and it can't be blocked by anything short of the power of a Royal's starseed. Royals themselves are normally untouched by this attack, unless she was intent on taking out a nearby Royal along with everything else (such as when Hotaru/Saturn was going to attack Chaos Galaxia). "Along with death, there is always hope and rebirth," however, and the Princess of Hope can use the Silver Crystal to selectively reverse the damage done. Saturn can be stopped from using the power by a physical force halting the descent of the Glaive - most normally done by an ally who quickly explains that all is not lost - even so, the attack will cut a swath of destruction through inanimate matter in a radius proportionate to how far the Glaive descended, though it won't directly harm anyone and leaves Saturn only slightly fatigued from the effort. While this attack wouldn't destroy an individual such as Yu-Huang, it would certainly make his existence horribly inconvenient if he no longer has a planet to dominate. Needless to say, this isn't a power that would be used very often, if at all – the threat of its use is usually more effective than actually using it.

Fuku: Start with the typical senshi's white unitard, complete with transparent sleeve-wings at the shoulders and the seam beneath the bust. Add the typically too-short pleated skirt in deep purple (her secondary color), complete with the V-shaped dip in both the front and the back. Add the typical sailor collar, also in purple. At the front point of the sailor collar, add a heart-shaped violet gem in the middle of a bow colored black (her primary color). Add a similar but larger bow without the gem at the back, just above where the skirt starts. Add a black choker around her neck, with a gold star front-and-center. Add the typical gold tiara, with a white opal set into the center point at her forehead. Add purple, front-laced, flat-heeled boots that end just below her knee. Add white gloves which end in folds of purple at her elbow. Add a pair of silver earrings, looking like half-inch diameter circles each with a single ring, with a silver inch-long diamond-shape hanging from the bottom of the stylized planets Saturn. Add light violet lipgloss. Add one wicked-looking Silence Glaive. Result: One Sailor Saturn in full fuku.

Connections

The Lunars

On the whole, these are her true compatriots, those whose fight is most closely tied to the fate of the earth. (Okay, so the Terrans are technically closer, but they're boys. Never trust a man to do a woman's work.) Even so, Yuriko can be quite distant from her fellow Lunars in general, but they are the ones who will be most likely to see her really open up in a friendly fashion.

Serenity: Kakureru Kyouri: On one hand, Yuriko is vastly different from Kyouri – one is dark, quiet, over-mature, introverted, and scared of very little, while the other is bright, energetic, naïve, personable, and scared of nearly everything. The two do have quite a bit in common, however: they are roughly the same age, they both enjoy art, and they both try to understand other people. Kia's natural empathy, combined with the princess/senshi influence, will help Yuriko open up more easily than she would otherwise. After this connection, Yuriko's mature stability will be helpful for Kia to draw upon. Being in the same year at school is a plus, given the varied troublemakers in said year. (And, as an in-joke between the characters' players: Kia × Yuriko OTP!!111)

Mercury: Mokushi Oki: There's likely to be a bit of tension between Oki and Yuriko, as their similarities are not in the best places. The fact that Oki is exceptionally bright but blows off school, while Yuriko scrapes to keep up average grades is likely to be a sore spot; Oki works well at avoiding notice, while Yuriko struggles to be noticed. They share a "healthy" cynicism, though Yuriko doesn't approve of Oki's rebelliousness. On the plus side, they do both like winter – perhaps at some point, they'll take out any built-up aggression they have for each other in a snowball fight. More likely for each to earn the other's respect is the fact that they both have struggles of their own that neither complains about.

Mars: Naien Atarimae: Initially, Mae is likely to intimidate Yuriko with her bluntness, at least until Yuriko learns that it's simply no-holds-barred honesty. Mae's dedication, as well as her insight, will draw wonder and perhaps even a little envy from Yuriko, who is all too uncertain about her future. Mae's insight into a person's nature will be difficult with Yuriko, who keeps her true self bundled up in a safe, dark place inside, but certainly not impossible. Both are the kind to open up well enough once they get a chance to know each other – but getting that chance is likely to require outside effort.

Venus: Ashikaseno Anrui:

Jupiter: Shizenkai Misao: Misao's "your mom" aura is likely to put Yuriko more at ease than with most people, particularly since it's the "your supportive mom" instead of "your prying mom." If any of the Lunars really need a mother figure in her life, it's Yuriko. On the downside, Yuriko isn't used to praise of much kind, though she could grow accustomed to the positive reinforcement fairly easily.

Uranus: Futekino Kyouko: Yuriko would love to have the smallest fraction of the confidence that Kyouko lives by. Despite this, the two have a significant number of similarities in their lives, and differ primarily in how they approach them - Yuriko by trying to find stability in her life, and Kyouko by embracing the uncertainty. Both have been separated from parts of their family, Yuriko by fate and Kyouko by her choices. Both have matured much more quickly than the norm and are fairly independent, due to life's influences upon each. Of course, you probably won't find these two going clothes-shopping together. While Kyouko's temper might otherwise cause a problem, it isn't greatly likely that Yuriko will find herself often on the wrong side of that temper - in fact, Yuriko may often be the calm voice of reason that delays Kyouko's wrath, if only for a short while. Lastly, there's the matter of horses, and while Yuriko may be a mature young lady she is NOT made of stone, thankyouverymuch.

Neptune: Seno Atsumi: Art, refinement, elegance, and maturity all make Atsumi seem to be an impossible ideal for Yuriko to aspire to emulate, in her own little ways. Atsumi's natural confidence is both intimidating and inspiring, depending on Yuriko's precise perspective at the time. It's clear that Yuriko could use some encouragement now and then (if not more often), and Atsumi is a great source of just that. In senshi matters, Neptune carries the precision that Saturn lacks. I can't yet see any ways in which Yuriko could actually help shore up Atsumi, and yet she'll probably try her darnedest to find a way.

Pluto: Sokei Ninmae: Yuriko considers herself organized, but she's a slob compared to Keika (as is most of the planet, go figure). Keika's grasp of the future is intimidating, but her difficulty in dealing with the here-and-now is a good way for Yuriko to be helpful – after all, things falling apart from what may have been planned is all too common in Yuriko's life. Pluto's tendency to lead rather than follow sits just fine with Saturn. Outside of senshi issues, though, Keika's arrogance and bluntness might cause problems, until Yuriko becomes more accustomed to it and the reasons behind it.

The Terrans

The Terrans are the only other faction who Yuriko considers among "the real good guys," since they aren't subjected to the typical Outer Senshi solar-system-ism. On the flip side, she doesn't much trust any of them all that well for one reason or another, with one notable exception.

Endymion: Takawa Daichi:

Kunzite: Amakusa Kenrou:

Nephrite: Susuki Binshou:

Jadeite: Giou Toshiro:

Zoisite: Shunran Teaki: Teaki is one of those people who confirms to Yuriko that boys are immature – and it doesn't help that they're in the same year at Chuo. He spends so much time bucking against authority that it can quickly irk her. His "ladies' man" attitude really doesn't win him any points with Little Miss Reserved either, particularly as frightened of commitment as he is. In the very unlikely case that he could ever break the tension between them, she could more easily accept his sense of humor and he might see that she's not nearly as much of a "stiff" as she appears. Matters aren't much improved as soldiers, though Saturn doesn't have any objections to Zoisite's victory-is-more-important-than-honor attitude to combat.

The Kinmoku

As a whole, Yuriko feels that the Kinmoku mean well, but whether it's bad luck or not thinking with head, heart, and body as a complete whole, she doesn't feel that they're nearly as capable as they'd like to believe. The fact that their starseeds come from outside the Solar System flashes warning lights in her Outer-Senshi-odometer, helping to ensure that cooperation on senshi business isn't to be taken for granted. Even so, her opinions toward them tend to be slightly more positive than most of her Outer Senshi companions.

Kakyuu: Mitsu Hanako: Yuriko can't help but give grudging respect to Princess Kakyuu. Solar-system-senshi prejudices aside, the two are more likely to get along pleasantly than be at odds. Yuriko's shyness is likely all the more endearing to Hanako, although her keeping people at arm's length may offset this. They're both good listeners, though Yuriko's not that great of a talker. That both of them work hard on their grades is another plus, even with how bright Hanako is; they are also in the same year at Chuo.

Fighter: Hideaki Katsuko:

Maker: Tsukuru Mariko:

Seeker: Celeste deVoie:

The Galactics

Between their past service to the forces of Chaos, their considerable individual power, and their lack of team cohesion (from a Lunar's perspective), Yuriko is quite suspicious of the Galactics and their motives. She's likely to keep a keen eye on any one of them nearby, just to make sure their allegiances against the new wave of Chaos aren't about to switch any time soon. This suspicion is one of those things that only constant proof otherwise, rather than even Kyouri's (perhaps especially Kyouri's) insistence to the purity of their motives, will correct.

Galaxia: Ishino Chikara: Ishino-sensei – this is Yuriko's first and most concrete vision of Chikara. She is someone to be obeyed and heeded, because that is what proper schoolchildren do for their instructors. (Sure, Yuriko doesn't listen all the time, but she tries.) In specific, Chikara's attitude of stoicism and determination serve as an inspiration for Yuriko, especially when it comes to schoolwork. This will get thrown into a major bundle of confusion for Saturn when she learns the Galactic Princess's identity – she'll have a very tough time coming to terms with the two identities. Saturn very much does not approve of Galaxia's "tough enough to do it all myself" attitude, since that's part of what started some MAJOR trouble the last time around – but neither is she going to be the person to tell Galaxia this. (Yes, Saturn can destroy the world, but Galaxia could break Saturn like a twig – and they both know it.)

Coronis: Kansou Rin:

Mermaid: Utakou Arumi:

Chuu: Girino Jun:

Mau: Tetsuya Bijiko:

Cocoon: Nagarekawa Sakura:

The Elementals

Objectively speaking, each of the Elementals gives Yuriko a fright, as she simply can't piece together in her mind why someone would give their inner self over to the force of evil. Of course, she tucks her fear aside once a confrontation starts – thus, most of the Elementals will scare her more when they're not attacking her. It will bother her when she learns that new Elementals can be appointed if existing ones are defeated, but this fact alone is not nearly enough for her to bring down the Silence Glaive, not when there's still hope (or is that Hope?) for the world.

Yu-Huang: Tatsuji Akira:

An: Ying Li-Nian:

Guang: Lucien Hakano: If Teaki's attitude simply suggested that boys were immature, Lucien's downright proves it beyond the shadow of a doubt – and he's in the same year as well. Many of the same issues arise, without any of the "good-natured feeling" behind Lucien's barbs when he chooses to share them. The strength of his personality will easily intimidate Yuriko, moreso if he's actually trying, until senshi-related matters kick in.

Di: Ebba Koch:

Kong: Arcelia Hernandez:

Sui: Trijntje Van Motreën:

Huo: Dante Chiesa:

Shang: Tacey Graham:

Xin: Eugene Clemens: The "CREEPY AS HELL" vibe Dr. Clemens has is enough for Yuriko to know she'll want nothing to do with him (as if life is ever that convenient). While she'd normally be able to steel herself against emotional manipulation, Xin might be the only one who could crack Saturn's emotional armor with a combination of a few choice words along with his projective empathy. On the other hand, his wraiths don't scare her one bit – they simply need to finish being destroyed before they can be reborn.
