The Basics

Name: Kakureru Kyouri (隠きょうり), the Japanese for 'Concealed Heart' or 'Hidden Feelings.' I originally picked this name (way, way back when NSM was planning on moving the theme to present day) because the meaning is ironic. The complete opposite of what you'd expect, at least... I mean, SERENITY concealing her feelings? Yeah right. Oh yeah, and 'cause it's pretty. Random tidbit - everyone in the world who isn't a teacher or slight acquaintance calls her Kia (きあ). Her mother originally gave her the nickname for reasons unbeknownst to anyone else. I picked it for reasons I can't for the life of me remember, but it's stuck for so long that I couldn't possibly play Kyouri without the nickname.

Position: Serenity, the Princess of Hope, and Sailor Moon, pretty soldier of love and justice. And let's not forget Kia - first year Chuo student and aspiring painter.

Appearance: Hair - Golden blonde, mildly curly (wavy, pretty much), and very, very long ("Very, very, not just... very?"). The hair usually falls a little bellow waist level, so if it were actually straightened Kyouri would probably be tripping on it all over the place. It is worn with bangs that stop just above her eyes, and she will only ever wear it up (and that only sometimes) if a certain painting turns out to be a particularly messy endeavor.

Eyes - Mostly blue with faint green highlights and little gold flecks surrounding the pupils. They're tall and wide, surrounded by thick, long black eyelashes tipped with blonde. Her eyebrows are thin, graceful arches, their color a dark enough gold that they're more noticeable than blonde eyebrows tend to be.

Facial Details - Her face is round and friendly, its complexion fair, glowing, and clear of any blemishes or freckles. High cheekbones, slim nose, and a rounded chin make for attractive features. Everything about her, especially her face, is gentle, golden, and lovely.

Build - Kia is awfully tiny, and delicate, though that mostly has to do with her personality rather than her small stature and complete lack of muscle mass. We'll probably do well to get into that later, though. *ahem* Anywho, Kia is short and slim, but rather than being willowy her figure is round (she falls just short of being curvy), soft, and gentle. She has no strength or athletic ability whatsoever, though not due to any sort physical problems - she's actually quite healthy - but still, a rough breeze would probably knock the poor girl over.

Carriage - She walks with a careful, practiced grace, always stepping lightly and dawdling only when something catches her eye. This is less because she is an elegant thing and more because she is easily frightened and the more time you waste bumbling around, the quicker scary things can catch up to you. Still, whether or not she means to be, she IS poised, elegant, and ladylike.

Voice - A perfect mix of liquid silver and warm honey - warm and gentle, yet coolly elegant at times, soft and breezy, gentle and curious, all at once. When she laughs (usually a frequent occurrence) it sounds like the distant jingling of little bells - kind, inviting, and endearing, like everything else about Kia. Is it obvious that I still can't get away from the MU* style of describing things? Anyway, if I had to pick a seiyuu for her, I'd say Tsuru Hiromi as Kujo Asuna (from Maison Ikkoku) - soft and unimposing, though without Asuna's extreme self-consciousness. ^__^

Apparel - When not in the Chuo Preparatory uniform she must wear to school, she usually wears cute little knee-length sundresses in pastel or otherwise pale colors with sandals, weather permitting. Otherwise she'll wear long skirts (sometimes even pants! *le gasp!* Though that's a rare occurrence) and fluffy wool sweaters. For any curious, here's the MU*-style desc of the Chuo uniform - 'Baring a vague resemblance to a military uniform, her school fuku is a simple, slate-gray in color. Kept in neat order and crisply ironed, the gray, pleated skirt falls a few inches above her knees, the bottom trimmed in two green stripes and one blue. The top buttons at the bottom and at the right shoulder fold over the front diagonally. The broad collar is creased and trimmed with the same stripes at the ends. Blue and green citation cords rest at the shoulders of the uniform. Too-long sleeves go just past the ends of her wrists, trimmed toward the ends with triangular stripes. White socks pulled just above her ankles and a pair of black dress shoes complete the ensemble.'

Age/Birthday/Astrological Whatnot: June 28th, which is, interestingly enough, the Memorial Day for Saint Irenaeus of Lyons, whose name means 'lover of peace.' Because I am awesome, I managed to chart her to be a TRIPLE CANCER! I RULE! Anyway, yeah... Sun and Moon in Cancer, Cancer rising. I am awesome and everyone wishes they were as cool as I am. Oh yeah, she is 16 years old.

Mundane Life

Friends and Family: Her late Mother was Yuurei (Apparition, Ghost, Phantom) Bessoir, the daughter of a French diplomat and a Kyoto native. She was a very lovely woman who was the genuine sort of humanitarian that all those phony celebrities try to be. Her Father is Kakureru Isha (Medical Doctor), successful Neurosurgeon, and also an esteemed Medical Doctor... He has a small but successful general family practice in Kourakuen. He's a kind soul, but has a nasty habit of getting so wrapped up in his work that he forgets everything else, including birthdays and special occasions. While Kia is very sensitive she is also very understanding and lets her father get away with that. ^__^ She has one elder sister, Zuijun (Faithfully Following). She is a student in her last year at Medical School. Everyone just calls her Jun - the members of the Kakureru family are really big fans of nicknames. She has a dry but nonetheless charming wit, and is very protective of her baby sister (eight years her junior), and is very much her Father's Daughter. She also works very hard, sometimes to the extent of ignoring all else.

Usual Daily Routine:

Background: August 9th, 1945 was a date Kakureru Isha would never forget. Before that day, he had been leading a rather normal five-year-old's life. Father, Mother, Brother, all lived in their reasonably sized house in Nagasaki City with the bay in view from the second story. Being raised in the years of World War II, he adored General Tojo like the rest of the country, and was raised an extreme nationalist. All of that changed, however, on the day that Little Boy was dropped on his city.

The entire city was destroyed, and those not immediately killed by the blast died soon of radiation, infection, or other similar ailments. Among those killed were all of Isha's immediate family. Since that day, Isha took to following the beliefs of humanitarianism, rather than nationalism. Even as he traveled north to Yokohama to live with a distant aunt, he had visions of the horrors he saw at Nagasaki. It would be something that would plague his dreams, nay, nightmares for years to come. Even as he had watched, he wanted desperately to do something to help. That's when Isha decided to become a doctor.

The rest of his natural childhood would be spent working hard and studying any moment when he WASN'T hard at work earning the money for school. He would go on to attend the best schools Yokohama could offer, and even made it into one of Japan's most prestigious medical schools. During his post-graduate school days, he made it a habit of attending and speaking at peace rallies. Not only could he attest to the horrors of the atom bomb, but explain in graphic detail the medical problems that this sort of radiation could cause. He had devoted his life to helping people and promoting peace. Which is just what attracted Yuurei Bessoir to him. The daughter of a French diplomat, she had a great interest in politics, and frequented many of the same assemblies that Isha did.

The two hit it off almost immediately, and after only a few short months of acquaintance, the two were wed. Soon after that, Isha earned his second medical degree, in neurology, a then rarely practiced profession. He quickly became one of Japan's youngest and most successful surgeons. Soon enough, the Kakureru family had earned a VERY modest fortune, which is when they decided to have children.

Their first child, a girl, Zuijun, bore surprising resemblance to her father in nearly every way. Fondly referred to simply as 'Jun,' the girl was raised with a strict Catholic upbringing like her mother, and also began schooling at a very young age. It was decided that she should become every bit as successful as her father, who, by that time, had won many awards, especially for his many medical theses. Of course Jun, being the overachiever that she was, had no problems whatsoever with the high standards set for her.

By the time Jun was eight years old, Yuurei was pregnant again with another little girl. She was named Kyouri, and looked a mirror of her mother since the day she was born, and would always. Her mother treasured her above all else, and like Jun, raised her to be as devoutly religious as she. That is, until Kyouri reached her third year and Yuurei complained of getting frighteningly painful migraines. At her husband's insistence she had herself checked out, and the doctors discovered several tumors and diagnosed her with a serious form of inoperable brain cancer. Isha, successful neurosurgeon that he was, was crushed that there was nothing he could do. Yuurei died only six months later.

Like her sister before her, Kyouri was enrolled in Catholic school, and took to it immediately. She disliked the homework and testing, but Kyouri had a great fondness for learning. She wanted to be smart, and know /everything/, like her sister (who was already taking High-School entrance exams at 13). Still, no matter how hard she worked, her grades remained steadfastly average. One day though, Kia, as her mother often referred to her fondly, found a new interest. Her class was taking a field trip to the Yokohama Museum of Art, and she fell hopelessly in love with what she saw there... Sculptures, murals, and the paintings, especially the paintings. Since that day, Kia took up the hobby herself. And surprisingly, she was good at it. After so many years of being the horribly average shadow of her overachieving sister, Kyouri finally discovered a talent that had remained hidden for too long. Her father, despite his disappointment that she couldn't be talented in academics and medicine like he and her sister, encouraged the hobby and bought her all the easels, canvases, and paints that she wanted.

Her childhood passed by rather uneventfully - her sister was busy with schoolwork, and her father so busy with his many medical practices, that she really only had her own thoughts and her painting to keep her company. The years went by, and she entered the city's only all-girl Catholic High School and took to it well enough. She had many acquaintances, and a few close friends, she was reasonably popular with the other students. Being the hopeless romantic that she is, however, she found an all-girl school positively dreadful. Thus her life was still boringly average, but it was, at least, a reasonably happy one. That was until one night when the gas stove in the kitchen was left on, which started a fire that spread quickly. Kia's room was the only one on the first floor, and the only room besides the kitchen that was devastated in the fire. All of her paintings went up in the flames, as she lay there, paralyzed with fear, with no way to get out.

The firemen managed to put out the fire and save her, but to this day she still remains terrified of even the smallest flames. She and her equally devout sister were certain that the fire was some small act of God, and convinced their father that Yokohama was not the place for them. So the family relocated to Yokohama's sister-city of Tokyo, residing in a large, pretty two story with a balcony in the area known as Kourakuen, just a few blocks away from a well-know preparatory school. Kia, of course, got the bedroom with the balcony, complaining for days that this time she wanted a way to escape, should there ever be another fire. She's awfully paranoid, despite her unending optimism.

After careful consideration, Kyouri decided she would try her hand at public schooling, seeing as there was one so close by, now. She took the entrance exams for Chuo High School, and after passing them with unsurprisingly average scores, enrolled. Her life seems to be settling down once again, though there is the matter of her suddenly suffering from some particularly painful migraines, and stranger still, the recurring dreams of far-off places and long-forgotten times that plague her nightly.

A Little More Specific

Quirks:

First and foremost, Kia is thoughtful by all definitions of the word. She isn't quite shy, but is quiet at most times, usually lost in thought or daydream, which she is in the habit of doing quite frequently. While not exceptionally intelligent by any means, she is a bright girl and gets unnoticeably average marks in school. She is, however, a true prodigy in matters of the heart. Empathy is perhaps her greatest skill - she can read the moods and emotions of most others before they even have to say a word. Her own feelings are oft confusing to her (as any teenager's are), but she is quite adept at comforting others and giving advice at times, though her best role is to serve as a shoulder to lean on and a sympathetic ear to listen.

Emotions fascinate her, and she loves to have deep, personal conversations with others. Usually those personal matters are shared from the other side of the table, as Kyouri herself can be quite guarded at times. This has not so much to do with shyness, but fear. Kia is a fearful little thing, and one of those biggest fears is of upsetting or disappointing others. She isn't much for political discussions or debates of any sort; her opinions, whenever she forms any, are kept to herself to avoid any potential arguments that may hurt feelings.

Kia believes quite thoroughly in the importance of avoiding hurt feelings... So we come back to the thoughtfulness thing, in how it manifests itself into the kindness that Kyouri is renowned for. She tries hard to make everyone around her feel as pleasant and comfortable as possible. Whenever she comes across someone in need, she'll try her best to help in whatever way she can, whether it be last week's chemistry notes, a few yen, or whatever else she can give.

Not only is she afraid of disappointing or upsetting others, but Kia is EXTREMELY phobic of just about everything. Her absolutely crippling fear of fire, bugs, big animals with teeth (well, almost all animals, really) and other such things are explainable - understandable, even. They are tangible things that can cause physical harm. Her other fears, however, stem from uncertainty, apprehension, and an overactive imagination. Almost scarier to her than even fire are those unseen things waiting to pounce on her from the shadows, and even her childish suspicious of that monster lurking in the closet. Still, without that imagination she might not be quite the artist that she is. See, for Kia there is a bright side to everything.

Having to wake up especially early one morning is a wonderful excuse to see the sunrise. Yard work is lovely, because that must mean the weather is nice, and you get to be surrounded by nature. If you get reprimanded at work or school, at least you have the privilege of having a job and an education - some people aren't quite so lucky, after all. Even that fire destroying their home in Yokohama provided a wonderful opportunity for change, to move to a new house in a new city. Kia's optimism is unending - no matter how bad a situation may get, she KNOWS that things will always get better. Whatever happens, it happens for the best. Of course, she believes in destiny, anyway, being the hopeless romantic that she is.

Despite that hopeful outlook, she still manages to be quite the worrywart. This has little to do with negativity, but more about her caring, gentle nature. Usually her worries are directed toward those she loves. Even though they are both doctors, whenever her sister or father get ill she fusses over them endlessly. She is a motherly sort, anyway - nurturing and sweet-tempered, she loves to care for others, and even the most obnoxious of children will still get a smile out of her. ...Of course, this is also because she tends to put the needs of others ahead of her own. In desperate times she acts by her heart and her instinct to do whatever is necessary to keep those around and close to her out of harm's way. She is protective, loyal, and selfless, and much braver and stronger than she'll ever believe she is.

As well as her loved ones and art, one of the most important things to Kia is her faith. Partly because of the reason that she spent many years learning the French language - she holds a great deal of interest in her Mother's culture. Even if her Mother hadn't been Catholic, Kyouri probably still would have stumbled upon the religion, or at the least some other form of Christianity. The ideals of the faith (ignoring all of the church politics) appeal greatly to her. She upholds strong belief in sacrifice and forgiveness; she loves her neighbor, honors her father and mother, and will always believe that God has a plan for her. Of course, what appeals the most to Kia, and what she believes in above all else, is love.

Attacks:

Silver Moon Crystal Power Kiss - Sailor Moon holds aloft the Eternal Tier (assuming it still exists), as another one of those feather tornadoes swirls about her. She holds the Tier in front of her and it lengthens as it emits a bright rose and golden light. She spins around, twirling the Tier like a baton, then takes solid battle stance, shouting, "Silver Moon..." The Tier is brought upward again, more golden light and more feathers fly, then Sailor Moon lifts it above her head, finishing with, "Crystal Power Kiss!" The golden light grows significantly larger; finally shooting out in a beam which engulfs the opponent.

Now, assuming the enemy is weakened significantly by the others' attacks, this will release any evil badness from the corrupted soul and all will be well again. Of course, this only works if the starseed was corrupted by an outside source, so Sailor Moon can't make a nasty person a good person -- but Kia would probably try her best. ^__^v

Fuku: She wears a simple white, form fitting bodysuit, with a heart shaped cutout on the neckline. A small moon-shaped brooch rests at the bottom of that heart, frilly angel wings to either side of it. A navy blue sailor color is attached to that bodysuit; the edge of it trimmed with gold striping in three rows. The shoulders of the bodysuit are slightly puffy, pale salmon-colored sleeves, short, stopping right after the shoulder. White gloves cover the rest of her arms, almost up to her shoulders, wide red bracers at the end of them. She wears a short, layered miniskirt over the bodysuit, yellow covering crimson covering navy-blue. Two long red ribbons trail from the back of that skirt, tied in a loose bow. Around her neck, she wears a red choker, a heart with a crescent moon at its bottom, attached to the front of it, mirroring the cutout of the bodysuit. Heeled white boots adorn her feet, leather rising up to just below her knees; the tops end in red trimming, yet another crescent moon design on top of the trim. On her back rest a pair of wings, long and graceful, covered with a multitude of white feathers. They bare eerie resemblance to the wings of an angel, which is only fitting, considering the angelic appearance of their wearer. Because the anime art of Eternal Sailor Moon just looks GOOFY, the shoulder poofies don't look like yucky plastic things, and the wings are made from real feathers. She can't fly with them (well, she could in ep. 200), but they're real 'cause they look prettier that way. Stupid anime character designs. >.<

Henshin: Kyouri pulls out her henshin locket (well, technically it's the Eternal Compact) as she shouts "Eternal Power, Make-Up!" The locket opens as her hand passes over it, revealing the Ginzuishou, which begins to glow, emitting a bright silver and rose-colored light, obscuring her transformation from view. A golden, upward-pointing crescent moon appears on her forehead, just as a pair of large, feathery white angel's wings grows from her back. A flurry of feathers from those wings and her own long blonde locks swirl together about as her bodysuit forms itself, multi-layered skirt appearing only seconds later. The veritable tornado of feathers moves its way to her arms, leaving a pair of long white gloves in their wake before heading downward to form the knee-high boots adorning her feet. Finally the storm of feathers dissipates, leaving Eternal Sailor Moon free to strike the proper end pose. Tahdah!
