Susuki Koutatsu (่ๅนธ้) is Binshou's father. His family has been running a teahouse on their property for generations, and he's the latest proprietor. He's not much taller than Binshou, with the same dark hair, and it's a rare thing to catch him out of his tea ceremony garb. He is, in fact, a total tea freak. He's very much into the Zen aspect of the tea ceremony, and at times it can seem as if he's not altogether on the planet, though as Binshou has learned, he'll come back to Earth when Binshou least expects it to resume his parenting gig. One minute he'll be contemplating a knot in the wooden floor, and then suddenly, "Oh, and Binshou, you're not to leave this house until you clean the tea room." And then it's right back to the floor.
His name is a dorky tea pun. The kanji means "attaining happiness", but a kotatsu is also a charcoal brazier often used in tea ceremonies, and it represents the element of fire in chaji. His wife's name is another word for a water jug, which obviously represents water in chaji. All they need is earth, air, and heart, and they should theoretically be able to summon Captain Tea Ceremony.
